  1. Wash the exterior of your car. Whether you wash it by hand or visit an automatic car wash, your vehicle needs to be thoroughly washed. The freezing temperatures and road salt can cause rust or damaged paint so it’s important to wash it off. Make sure to focus on the undercarriage as well. Add baking soda to your soapy water if you’re washing your car at home.
  2. Check your tires. The lower temperatures can affect your tire pressure and the road conditions can affect the tread and alignment of your tires. Make sure your tires are at the proper psi level, check for worn tread, and get your tires rotated. If needed, get a new set of tires so that you are ready for the rainy weather of spring.
  3. Replace windshield wiper blades and fluid. Snow can make your windshield wiper blades not work as well. If they are streaking, it is time to get new ones. New blades are affordable and easy to replace. You should top off the windshield wiper fluid as you most likely used a decent amount during winter.
  4. Check your battery. Your battery works hard during winter so it’s a good idea to check how much power it has left. Most places will do this for free. If your battery is getting low, it’s a good idea to change it as soon as possible.
  5. Change the oil. Getting regular oil changes is always important. However, it’s especially important when changing the oil between seasons. You need different viscosity levels for warm and cold temperatures, so you need to make sure you have the correct one in your engine.
